About Us
The UMass Ballroom Dance Team was chartered in 1993 and has since become a powerhouse in the competitive collegiate ballroom world. We currently have nearly 100 members ranging from newcomer through champion.
We are a competitive sports team and travel to an average of ten competitions across New England per year-an average of five per semester. Our practices are geared towards competition preparation and that is the core of what our organization does.
As mentioned in our mission statement, our purpose is twofold; enriching the community through dance is a huge part of who we are. Each month we host at least one social dance lesson which is open to the community-for more information, please see the Social Lessons section. In addition to our lessons, we routinely put on performances for groups on campus and in the community.
Throughout the semester we host a number of exciting fundraising events such as our Annual Halloween Dance and Annual Valentine's Day Dance which normally offer great prizes, raffles, and treats to get everyone in the holiday spirit.
In the past we have raised money and performed at UDance, a 12 hour dance marathon in support of the Baystate Children's Hospital.
"Our mission as the University of Massachusetts Ballroom Dance Team is twofold: to support and engage community participation and education through social dance events, and to promote the sport of ballroom dance through competition participation and performance opportunities."
